Home for the Holidays: A Travel Guide for Your Doodle

Thanksgiving is just around the corner! As one of the busiest travel times of the year, it’s not just families packing their suitcases—it’s their beloved Doodles too. Whether you’re driving to Grandma’s house, flying to a distant destination, or just making a short road trip, ensuring your Doodle’s safety, comfort, and happiness is key to enjoying the journey.

1. Safety First: Car Harnesses and Crates
Before hitting the road, make sure your Doodle is secure in the car. Car safety harnesses, crates, or booster seats are great options to keep your Doodle safe while traveling. Not only does this protect them in case of a sudden stop, but it also prevents distractions for the driver. A harness that doubles as a walking leash can be super handy for pit stops.

2. Comfort is Key: Travel Accessories for the Win
A cozy blanket, a favorite toy, or even a portable water bowl can make all the difference for your Doodle’s comfort. Doodles are super social and thrive on familiarity, so bringing along their bed or a small item that smells like home can help them settle more easily during the trip. Don’t forget a jacket or sweater for colder climates—your Doodle deserves to feel snug too!

3. Pack the Essentials
Create a travel bag for your Doodle that includes:
•   Their regular food and treats (stick to their usual diet to avoid tummy troubles).
•   Collapsible water and food bowls.
•   Their comb and brush—traveling might throw off your Doodle’s grooming schedule, and regular brushing will prevent mats and tangles from forming while you’re away.
•   Any medications they might need, including over-the-counter options like Imodium or Pepto-Bismol, just in case stress or new foods cause digestive upset.
•   Waste bags and a travel-sized first aid kit for any emergencies.

4. On the Move: Preparing for Planes
If you’re flying, double-check the airline’s pet policies. Make sure your Doodle carrier is TSA-approved, and give your pup plenty of time to stretch their legs and relieve themselves before boarding. Doodles are known for their calm and adaptable personalities, but a little extra planning can help make the trip as smooth as possible. Consider a calming chew or pheromone spray if your Doodle is a nervous traveler.

5. Pit Stops and Play Breaks
Long car rides can make anyone restless—Doodles included! Schedule stops every couple of hours to let your Doodle stretch, sniff around, and burn off some energy. A quick game of fetch or a short walk can do wonders for their mood and prevent restlessness.

6. Prepare for the Unexpected
Holiday travel can be unpredictable. Having extra water, food, and comfort items can be a lifesaver if there’s a delay. If you’re staying with family, confirm ahead of time that their home is pet-friendly and safe for your Doodle—think secure yard fencing and no tempting table scraps within paw’s reach!

7. Post-Trip Reset
After all the excitement of Thanksgiving travel and festivities, your Doodle may need some extra TLC. Provide a quiet space for them to relax and recharge once you’re back home or at your destination.

The Joy of Traveling with Your Doodle
Traveling with your Doodle might take a bit of planning, but it’s so worth it. The wagging tails, the cuddles during road trips, and the joy of seeing your Doodle bond with family and friends make every effort worthwhile. This Thanksgiving, let’s make sure our furry companions feel the love, just as much as the rest of the family.

A Note About Travel Essentials
At our Fletch & Lo Boutique, we carry many of the items mentioned here, from car safety harnesses to grooming tools and calming sprays. However, we understand that when you’re traveling last minute, convenience is key. If you’re in a pinch, these recommendations can help you grab something quickly and confidently for your Doodle’s journey.

Safe Travels, and Be Blessed!
From our family to yours, we wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with love, laughter, and wagging tails. Be safe, be prepared, and be blessed as you hit the road with your Doodle this holiday season!
